Two poignant and candid photographs of the Apollo 1 astronauts who were later killed on the launchpad in a fire caused by a faulty electrical wire. One photo shows the three together, Edward H. White II, Virgil "Gus" Grissom, and Roger B. Chaffee at a a press panel during their Astronaut Familiarization Course at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville.
The second shows Grissom and Chaffee at a NASA meeting along with Lee James (Saturn 1B vehicle manager) and astronaut James McDivitt. Both from April 19, 1966, just 9 months before the fatal accident. Both are original NASA photos with blue/purple ink descriptions on the backs, and NASA photo #s S-66-24589 and SS-66-24592 on the fronts. In very good condition with some edge curl and light crease to one margin corner. I have a few other NASA photos as well, not yet listed.
